The project entered the Apache Incubator in October 2016. The move was endorsed by Java creator James Gosling. In September 2016, Oracle submitted a proposal to donate the NetBeans project to the Apache Software Foundation, stating that it was “opening up the NetBeans governance model to give NetBeans constituents a greater voice in the project’s direction and future success through the upcoming release of Java 9 and NetBeans 9 and beyond”. Under Oracle, NetBeans competed with JDeveloper, a freeware IDE that has historically been a product of the company. In 2010, Sun (and thus NetBeans) was acquired by Oracle Corporation. Since then, the NetBeans community has continued to grow. Sun open-sourced the NetBeans IDE in June of the following year. In 1997, Roman Staněk formed a company around the project and produced commercial versions of the NetBeans IDE until it was bought by Sun Microsystems in 1999. It looks like #netbeans_jdkhome="/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/".ĭon't forget to uncomment the line by removing the # character.NetBeans began in 1996 as Xelfi (word play on Delphi), a Java IDE student project under the guidance of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University in Prague. Last step: Edit the line wich corresponds to your JVM (Java Virtual Machine) folder. Open a TERMINAL and type (here I'll use Netbeans 8.2 version): cd /netbeans-8.2/etcĪnd open nf file in editor as a superuse (sudo): sudo gedit nf For example, mine is named java-8-opendjdk-amd64įourth: let's edit the second nf file located at your Netbeans installation folder. To find out what JVM version you use, go to the JVM folder by typing in terminal: cd /usr/lib/jvmĪnd see what name is folder that contains JVM. It looks like #netbeans_jdkhome="/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/".Ĭhange the local according to your JVM version. Third: Edit the line wich corresponds to your JVM (Java Virtual Machine) folder. Second: open nf file as superuser (sudo): sudo gedit nf It means the nf file (located in two places) was not set up correctly. To solve this you might do: The thing is I need the full version from the website, because I'm working with HTML5, CSS, J2EE and GlassFish server support. When I install netbeans from the shell ( sudo apt-get install netbeans) everything works just fine. Now, all this only happens with the version I download from the website. I get an error message saying netbeans is not installed. I also tried to run the command netbeans -jdkhome /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle, unsuccessfully. I get the correct output when I run both java -version and javac -version * 1 /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle/jre/bin/java 1 manual mode I also ran sudo update-alternatives -config java, which outputs 0 /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle/jre/bin/java 1 auto mode I downloaded netbeans 8.1 from (full version), installed it but when it comes to enabling the java modules it fails, showing me a list of all the modules netbeans can't enable. I added the webupd8team/java repository and installed oracle-java8-installer and oracle-java8-set-default. I know this question has already been posted, but the solutions provided don't work for me.
